On this page you'll find really simple photo instructions for how to make beautiful window stars. Make Your Own Christmas Decorations: Some of my favourite easy to make Christmas ornaments are these gorgeous tissue-paper window stars. When the sun shines through them, they look absolutely stunning, and really brighten up a room :-) Here are some that I put up in our living room: And here's one made by reader Esther and her children on a cold winter's day: Thanks for sending in your photo Esther! To make your own window stars, you'll need: Coloured tissue paper or kite paper (available from craft stores) Using your pencil and ruler, draw 8 rectangles on the tissue paper and cut them out. Make each rectangle twice as long as it is wide. Your final star will be twice the height of a rectangle.

You can use as many or few colours as you like. I'll demonstrate with a rainbow coloured star. Pick one of the rectangles. Fold it in half lengthwise, and then unfold again, to leave a crease down the center. Fold each of the corners to meet the center line. (Different paper, just to show the folds more clearly) On the right, fold the two edges in to meet the center line again, like you were making a paper plane. On the left, fold the corners so they look like this. These little folds will make a pretty "star within a star" effect later on. Fold all the other pieces the same way. Turn one of the pieces over, and put a strip of double-sided tape on it like this. I've left the backing on my tape so that you can see it clearly, but obviously you should peel the backing off yours. Place the piece on top of another piece, like this. Notice that the taped edge on the pink piece lines up with the center-line on the blue piece. Add the rest of pieces in the same way.

Finally, you'll need to complete the star by taping the first and last pieces together. The easiest way is to fold back the star like this, put some tape on, then fold it back down. You can flatten it in a book for a few hours to set the creases. Because these pack flat, they're great for sending as gifts inside Christmas cards To attach your star to a window, use aIf you use too much, it will be impossible to remove the star without tearing it. Instead of using glue, you can also attach a hanging thread to one point of the star. Looking for more Christmas Decorations? Make your own Christmas decorations of all sorts... I love using good quality crepe paper in lieu of tissue paper when making pom poms as it’s more durable and comes in a wider variety of vibrant and glorious colors.

With scissors, trim each end into a point. Fan out the folds and gently pull each sheet forward. The knot should be on the backside of the pom pom.
outdoor christmas decorations lighted packages Do the same on the other side. Fluff out the pom pom. For a double sided pom pom, stack 10 sheets of crepe paper and pull up 5 sheets on the backside. Continue adding pom poms along the piece of twine. Use pinking shears for a pom pom that resembles a daffodil! Try rounding out the edges for a softer look. Continue adding pom poms until the desired length is reached. (tutorial adapted from Martha Stewart; images by HonestlyYUM)Last winter we did a series of projects that we called our Winter Citrus Series. This series featured seasonal designs with lemons and clementines, and we even made crepe paper versions to use for a DIY centerpiece. This winter, we wanted to use the same crafty concept to create more gorgeous seasonal decor.

Introducing, our crepe paper pomegranates! You could certainly use these for a centerpiece, but we decided that instead we would use these to make pomegranate ornaments for your Christmas tree. Just like our crepe paper lemons and clementines, you will need foam balls to use for the base of these ornaments. We used 3 inch foam balls, but you can make the pomegranate ornaments any size that you’d like. You should be able to find foam balls at your local craft store. The other major material that you need for this crepe paper. We are so excited that this project could also be an opportunity to use our new line of heavy floristic crepe paper! We used a mix of the floristic and extra fine papers for a gorgeous range reds and purples. From the extra fine line we used Sangria, Aubergine and Cranberry, and then used Bordeaux, Holly Berry and Peppermint from the floristic line. As usual, we made the leaves in our favorite Cypress green. Once you have your materials, print the pomegranate ornaments template below to use as a guide for cutting your crepe.

Our top tip for this project is to gently stretch the centers of the crepe as much as possible. Follow the step-by-step photo tutorial as you go! Keep the pomegranates as is for an abundant winter centerpiece, or turn them into ornaments by adding a loop of organza ribbon. If you want to play around with other colors, these pomegranate ornaments would also look gorgeous in our metallic papers. Not to mention, a classic crisp white is always a great option for the holidays. This simple project is so quick and irresistible for winter crafting! If you have suggestions for other crepe fruits that you would like to see, send in your ideas to get in on the creative process. Browse all the ornaments in our Christmas section, or pop over to our membership page to start crafting with us. Stay tuned for the floristic crepe, available in mid-November just in time for the holidays! You can find all of our specialty crepe and tissue papers in our shop. Cheers to the holiday season!
